Chemistry 11

Today we did the last part of naming.   We named and wrote formulas for Covalent Compounds and Acids.   Practice worksheet with a partner on this.

Hebden practice:  page 76 Ex: 80-87 and Ex: 133-139

Biology 12

Today we reviewed for our test tomorrow on Biomolecules and Cell Organelles.

We watched a Crash Course in Biology Video to review biomolecules.

Then for Test Practice on Big Paper (like a flash card) Draw structure on the front and then on the back write some things about this molecule:  what is it used for and what organelles use this or make this?

Carbohydrates:
1) Glucose (monosaccaride)     2) Sucrose (disaccaride)
3) Starch (polysaccaride)     4)Gylycogen

Remember that cellulose is an unbranched chain of glucose found in plant cell walls

Lipids:
1)Neutral Fats (triglycerides)            2) Cholesterol         3) Phospholipids
Draw monomers that make this up

Proteins:
1) Amino acid (monomer)      2) Show a primary structure of a protein with polypeptide bond.

Nucleic Acids:
1) Nucleotide
Draw and label phosphate, sugar and a base

2) Draw ATP

Chemistry 11

Today I collected the graph of 3 densities from yesterday as well as Hebden pg. 68 Ex: 1 and pg. 72 Ex: 5.

We practiced naming and writing formulas for ionic compounds......practice until perfect!!

Short Quiz on Monday on names and formulas of ionic compounds.

Biology 12

Today we did a partner quiz on the Cell Structures and Functions

We made a "sweet cell" with some edible parts and then wrote an individual quiz on the organelles.

I collected the entire booklet questions from Unit 1 as well as the Unit 1 review (written questions).

Tuesday Feb. 21 there will be a test on Unit 1:  Biomolecules and the Cell

Chemistry 11

Today we:
1)  Collected Unit 1 Review
2)  Did Unit 1 Test
3)  Entered all our class results to finish our "mini lab" graphing as a means of seeking relationships
You should have this lab completed with the densities of your three liquids calculated.
4) Started on Naming Ionic compounds.
5)  Homework:  Complete part 2 on the blue sheet, naming ionic compounds.
and Hebden: pg. 68 Ex: 1 and pg. 72 Ex: 5

Biology 12

Today we decided to postpone the test on Unit 1 in favor of a quiz on Friday.   Test on all of Unit 1 will be on Tuesday.

Due Friday:   All of booklet questions from Unit 1 as well as Unit 1 Review.

Chemistry 11

Today we got back our quick question quiz on measurement and sig. figs.   We had some difficulty with this so got to write a re-quiz with a partner.

Unit 1 Review.  We had time to work on this.   This will be due on Thursday when we write the test on Measurement and Matter Intro.

Unit 1 Review full answers in the classroom.  Answer to some of the Unit 1 review:

3) All measured values have some estimate as part of the measurement.  The estimated number is uncertain.

4a) 7.37 m +/-0.05 m    4b) 7.12 L +/-0.025 L    4c) 4.160 g +/- 0.1 g

5a) 105 mm    5b) 9 km/hr     5c)53000 µm    5d) 9.25 x 106

5e) 0.012 kL     5f) 0.042 kb
