Chemistry 11

Today we did some review on Limiting and Excess Reactants.   We then practiced our big review booklet.   It is due on Monday June 19th.   Some answers to be posted soon.

Biology 12

Today we finished off the nervous system by looking at dissected sheep brains and labeling the parts.   Next we looked at the male reproductive system and labelled a diagram with parts and function.  This diagram is due tomorrow.    We watched "The great sperm race"

Monday 12 June 2017

Biology 12

Today we finished off the Brain Worksheet and Completed a Nervous System Review Handout.

These were due at the end of class today.

Also given out:  Exam study guide and practice exam.

Chemistry 11

Today we FINISHED chemistry 11!!   Last topic was functional groups.  We watched a video and took some notes on functional groups.

You should finish the worksheet on Functional groups for tomorrow.   Circle and name the functional groups.

Hebden Questions you should have completed for this unit:  pg.

Chemistry 11

Today we did more naming and drawing alkane structures.  We looked at cycloakanes, and alkyl halides.  Homework:  pg. 223  Ex: 15, 16 (a-c) and pg. 225  Ex: 17, 18 (a-c)

Biology 12

Today we used our BRAINs to learn about the conscious and unconscious Brain.  Do module questions G and label the brain.

Monday 5 June 2017

Biology 12

Today we continued with the nerve impulse by looking at what happens when the nerve impulse gets to the end of one axon.......it has to be communicated to the next neuron by means of neurotransmitters in the synaptic cleft.    Homework:  Module questions D.

Chemistry 11

We continued with organic chemistry and naming alkanes (compounds with C and H).

Homework:  pg. 219 Ex: 3,  pg. 220 Ex: 5, 6   pg. 221 Ex: 8 (a-e)

Sunday 4 June 2017

Chemistry 11

Today we started our last unit!!    Organic Chemistry.   We took notes on writing formulas and naming hydrocarbon molecules with only single bonds (alkanes).  Make sure you get these notes if you were away.

Biology 12

Today we learned about the action potential.  This is what sends a nerve impulse down a neuron.  We watched the crash course video, took notes from a power point and answered a few review questions.  If you missed it:  Go to the link here and download notes and question.    http://msjclassbio12.blogspot.ca/p/nervous-system.html

Biology 12

Today we wrote the Respiratory/Excretory Unit Test.   Next we looked at the anatomy of a neuron and made some neuron models on our desks with modelling clay.

Chemistry 11

During the double block we finished off lab 16B and measured absorbance and % transmittance of our solutions.   The lab is due on Friday with Questions and Calculations # 1-4.  pg. 170

Next we wrote our solutions unit test.  Challenging multiple choice for sure!
