Life Science 11

Today we observed our Abundance and Distribution of Bacteria lab.  Some of you grew some weird looking critters!  See Monday's post for a link to this lab.  Next we did another microbiology lab:  Antibiotics vs. Bacteria.  This lab is found HERE.  We started incubating these petri dishes and will observe them on Friday.

See the video below for a description of bacterial colonies:

Science 10

Today we took notes on Thermal Energy Calculations.  These notes are found HERE.  Next we did some thermal energy practice questions.  These are HERE.  Finally, we prepared for the RUBE GOLDBERG chain reaction.  See the videos below.

Life Sciences 11

Today we finished off the notes in the bacteria unit.  These notes are found HERE.   Make sure you take notes on pathogenic bacteria, helpful bacteria and how to control the spread of bacteria.  Next we started to organize for our lab:  Distribution and Abundance of Bacteria.  This lab is found HERE.  Finally we got our bacteria review for our bacteria final assessment on Monday, April 27th.  This is found HERE.

Science 10

Today we started off with some review questions on PE (Gravitational Potential Energy) and KE (Mechanical Kinetic Energy) questions.  Remember to:

1) Write out the formula you used.                 2) Write out what is given and what you are trying to find.   3) Substitute the numbers into the formula.     4) Give you answer clearly (in a box) with units

Worksheet is found HERE.   This is due tomorrow.

Next we took some notes on Thermal Energy.  These notes are found HERE.

Life Science 11

Today we continued taking notes on Bacteria.  We wrote notes on how bacteria get their energy and what there oxygen requirements are.  Power point is found HERE (slide #27-29).  Next we did a poster carousel project where we went around and gathered some information from each poster.

Science 10

Today we took notes on KE and PE together.  These notes are found HERE.  Next we did a poster presentation carousel activity where we walked around and looked at other peoples energy projects.

Science 10

From Monday-Thursday the Science 10 class will be working on an Energy Generation project.  This project is found HERE.

Make sure you keep your research notes as well to go along with your finished poster.

Life Science 11

Ms. Wood and some of the students in Life Science 11 are away at the Bamfield Marine Science Center.  From Monday-Thursday we are working on the poster project found HERE.

Science 10

Today we wrote notes on conservation of energy.  Worksheet is found HERE and the notesheet is HERE.

We got our mark sheet and lots of people need to do the three labs below.  These are the data to go along with the lab.  Answer all questions from the text or from the lab handout (Thermal energy of a nut)

Life Science 11

Today we went over all the details for our TAXONOMY unit quiz coming up on Thursday.   The textbook guided us through the Taxonomy concepts (page 48-57).  Also make sure you know how to use a cladogram and how to make a dichotomous key and use a dichotomous key.

Next we took some notes on our next unit, bacteria.  The note sheet is HERE and the power point to go with it is HERE.

Homework:  Read page 58-61.  Do concept check page 59 #1,2

Concept check page 61 #1, 2, 3, and 4

Today we continued with our physics unit- ENERGY!!

First we learned about all the units used to measure energy.  We watched the video below and took notes on some of the

Next we did a lab to calculate the thermal energy of a nut.   Turn this lab in with all 9 questions finished.

Today we worked on CLADOGRAMS.  First we watched the video below and then did THIS cladogram analysis and turned it in.  Answer to the first page HERE.

Next we did some research on our favorite plant and animal.  We used a large piece of paper and split it in half.  On one side we drew a plant and wrote out the Genus and Species names as well as the Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family of each organism and turned it it.

Next we did THIS review.   Answer Key is found HERE

Finally, we went outside in groups and used a dichotomous key of TREE species to identify some conifers.
