Safety quiz coming up on TUESDAY, Sept. 9th

Anatomy and Physiology 12

Today we continued with our notes on Chemistry Review and Homeostasis.  Power point is here and note sheet here.  For homework:  Read Section 2.1 (Basic Chemistry) and 2.2 (Molecules and Compounds).  Do the Check Your Progress at the end of each section.  If you only have the "Giraffe book", here are the questions for

Section 2.1:  1. Identify why the key elements in the Earth's crust would differ from those present in living organisms.

2. Identify the protons, neutrons and electrons within a calcium atom.

3. Explain how radiation can be both beneficial and harmful to humans.

4. Explain the differences between oxygen 16 and oxygen 18.

Section 2.2:  1. Identify when carbon dioxide (CO2) and nitrogen gas (N2) are considered molecules, compounds, or both.

2. Describe why a carbon atom (C) is capable of forming four covalent bonds

3. Explain why hydrogen ions form polar bonds that have a partially positive charge.
