Anatomy and Physiology 12 (Bio 12)

This week we have been working on Scientific Method and a Chemistry Review to help you with the Biochemistry section of the course.

In your textbook you should be reading and answering the Check your progress for the following sections:

Chapter 1:  Read The process of Science Section and do check your progress questions

Chapter 2:  Read 2.1 Basic Chemistry and 2.2 Molecules and Compounds and do check your progress questions for each section.

Back to School Pig Time!!   If you are planning to come to school for the remainder of the year, we will be doing the pig dissection in class.  You will have an alternate assignment if you are not coming in.  Please watch these videos to prepare for the pig dissection:  Watch part I, II and III

Biology 12

Work for the weeks of May 4- May 15.  Due on May 15th.   Mini Research Paper #2 is also due on May 15th.  

Assignment #1:  Draw the following structures on your own paper--must be hand drawn!!  Label structures indicated. 

Digestive system  A.  Label all coloured structures

Heart diagram.      B. Label all numbered structures.  Draw arrows to show the path of blood through                                the heart.

Biology 12

DNA unit update.  Have you completed your DNA module questions?   These will not be submitted, but if you are going on in Biology -  Make sure you feel comfortable explaining DNA transcription --into mRNA and translation ---into chains of amino acids.

Biology 12

Hi everyone-Thanks to those who have already turned in their first digestive system assignment.  I look forward to seeing you in the virtual world!!   We will be working on TEAMS which is available within office 365.  You can also download on your computer or phone.   I will post the assignments and notes in notebook in TEAMS.   Online lectures/tutorials given during my virtual office hours for your class.

Today we did the liver enzyme lab.   All you need to turn in for this are the data table and questions from the end of the lab. 

Tomorrow the french fry lab is due....Enzyme module questions due on Monday and test is on Tuesday on Cell Membrane, Transport and Enzymes.

Today we wrote our module quiz on the transport across cell membranes.  (Module B and C from cell membrane and transport)

Next we watched a short enzyme video and got the enzyme module questions.  Reminder that your test on cell membrane and transport is coming up on Tuesday.   Potato lab is due on Friday.

Today we discussed active transport and watched the quick video below



Next we worked on our Potato Lab.  Make sure your graph on Excel has two best fit lines and that you calculate the x intercept to determine concentration of solute in potato or yam cytoplasm.

Today we took a module quiz on section A of cell membrane and transport module questions.  Next we watched these two fabulous amoeba sisters videos explaining osmosis and diffusion...and we had some question sheets to answer to go along with these.

Today we got notes on cell membrane and transport.  Next we determined the % change in mass for the potatoes and yams.  Make sure you bring this back to class tomorrow.

We also got our next set of module questions.  These are on the cell membrane and transport across the membrane.   Part (A) section A due tomorrow.......With a module quizerooo

Today we had a guest speaker from Selkirk College.  Next we did the "french fry" lab and prepared solutions of different concentrations to test the sugar concentration of potatoes.
