Chemistry 11

Today we wrote a quick question quiz on measurement and significant figure calculations.

I did some demos:  1) What happens if you get acid in your eye?   Gross right!  Wear goggles kids....
2) Some chemical and physical properties of ethanol.  

Next I gave out some notes on Scientific Method and Physical and Chemical Change and Classification of Matter.  We talked about the ways that matter can be classified.

We finished with a "Quick Non-Formal Lab"  on the density of 3 liquids.   Students collected data which will be used by the class on Monday.

Chemistry 11

Today I collected Hebden Exercises #13-15 on pg. 44.

We took notes on the 3 states of matter and how the particles act in each state.   We had some time to work on Lab 1A (due tomorrow) and Unit 1 review (ready to check next Tuesday Feb. 14.)

Second block we used our vast knowledge of significant figures and measurement uncertainty to determine the thickness of  two types of aluminum foil.  How crazy is that!

Biology 12

Today we got back our biomolecules quiz.  Good work!   If you would like to improve your score, make sure you turn in quiz corrections sheet and re-do the quiz Friday at lunch.

We looked at a short video on the Cell.  (Crash course in Biology series) and then took some notes on cells and their organelles.    Booklet Questions part B (Cells) up to and including Endoplasmic Reticulum is due on Friday Feb. 10.

Also due on Friday is the Buffers Lab.

Today we finally finished Lab 1A.   Lab is due with all questions and follow-up questions and a conclusion on Friday.

Also on Friday a quiz on Measurement and Sig. Fig. Calculations.

Hebden homework:  Read page 44.  Do Exercises #13-15.

Biology 12

Today we wrote our first quiz on Biomolecules.  

Took notes on Nucleic Acids and learned what is required for the Buffers Lab (due Friday).

Today we finished off our notes on proteins by looking at the 4 structures of proteins.   We answered some protein questions and did a practice quiz to practice for our quiz on biomolecules tomorrow.

Chemistry 11

Today we kept working on Lab 1A.  It is a loooong lab, so don't worry if you have only filtered your calcium hydroxide.

We took notes on matter and on the properties of matter including examples of descriptive and quantitative properties.

Homework:  read Hebden pg. 41-42 Do pg. 43 #1-4
