Today we discussed the fact that besides water there are four main
types of chemical compounds in our bodies. They are: Carbohydrates,
Proteins, Lipids (fats) and Nucleic Acids. One thing they all have in
common is that they are all polymers (chains of repeating units).
We
looked at how polymers are made: By dehydration synthesis and how they
are broken down into their small units: By hydrolysis.
Next we looked in depth at carbohydrates and learned of some monomer and polymer names.
HOMEWORK: Complete Section A part C) Biological Molecules of the Cell for tomorrow.
Second Block: We did a lab on Antacid Buffers. This will be due next Friday Feb. 10th.
